Ectropion
Cause
As a person ages, the lower eyelid sags in the horizontal direction. It then droops away from the eye and turns outwards. This may also be caused by scarring or skin conditions.
Symptoms
An eyelid that turns outwards causes eye irritation, tears, redness and sensitivity to bright light and wind.
Surgery
The ectropion can generally be removed by surgery under local anaesthetic.
